The sweetest pop up in London, After Hours is the latest project from the guys at Live & Let Dine with a simple concept, dessert. And it all makes perfect sense, most people spend more time over coffee and dessert than they do eating the preceding meal, so why not eliminate the starter and main all together and get straight down to the good stuff? That is exactly what you’ll get at After Hours.
Last month saw the pop up housed in Store St. Espresso, which is where I got the pleasure of tasting what those culinary geniuses from Free Company had whisked up (pun absolutely intended). I hydrated with prosecco, devoured three perfectly balanced and executed desserts, indulged in petit fours (two words: cardamom macarons) and left on a major sugar high with a huge sense of satisfaction. If only every meal out could be like this.
For the next instalment of this sweet project they’re switching venues and heading to Allpress Espresso in Shoreditch for one night only with guest chef Ben Spalding (John Salt, L’autre Pied, Gordon Ramsay), so expect innovative dishes like cucumber and peanut butter, sweet bread with salt and bonfire smoke and hot and cold Original Beans.
If like me you’re massively bummed that you can’t make the 20th fear not, they’ll be back with more in May. Panic over.
